2nd cycle graduates in Medical Biotechnologies and Molecular Medicine should possess basic knowledge of congenital or acquired medical and surgical human pathologies, where they may intervene with a biotechnological approach, with respect in particular to those where it is foreseeable the development of innovative molecular technologies and the application of stem cells. They should be able to identify, through specific diagnostic tests, the interactions among microorganisms and human organisms; they should know and be able to use the typical methodologies of cellular, molecular and gene-transfer biotechnologies, for the identification and validation of therapeutical targets as well as innovative diagnostic solutions for molecular medicine, oncology and regenerative medicine; they should be able to use the most innovative biotechnological tools, including the typical genetic engineering platforms and the applied technologies for the study of genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics. 2nd cycle graduates of this course should also be able to design and apply, together with 2nd cycle graduates in Medicine and Surgery, diagnostic and therapeutic strategies based on biotechnologies.
The Degree course consists of 120 credits which should be acquired in four semesters; it includes 9 integrated courses (93 credits), 3 elective courses (9 credits), other educational activities (3 credits), other language skills (3 credits) and the final examination awarded with 12 credits.
The course consists of frontal teaching, seminars, laboratory practice, internship practice and of an experimental dissertation, prepared by the student in a laboratory selected by him/her, during his/her stay for an adequate period of time, in a facility which is highly specialised and qualified under the technical-scientific point of view, as well as experiences in international laboratories, in the framework of the Erasmus programme or other programmes. The educational programme also provides for contacts with various representatives of regional biotechnological operators, through the participation in seminars and internships opportunities in regional facilities.
