The general objectives and the structure of the studies described below are based on the contents of the Ministerial Decree "New Degree Classes"(2nd cycle), which defines the 2nd cycle Degree Course in accordance with the directives of the European Union and of the Academic Regulations of the University of Palermo. The educational program includes the acquisition of 360 credits (CFU) in the 6-year course, i.e. and about 60 credits per year. The distribution of the 360 credits is determined in accordance with the conditions set out in the Annexes to DM establishing the credits to be allocated to disciplines including the educational activities considered as essential for the formation of the Dentist.
A credit, corresponding to an average of 25 hours of, is related to at least 8 hours of frontal teaching and at least 10 hours of practice/professional training, in accordance with the guidelines of the University of Palermo. The remaining hours remain available to the student for revising contents and personal study.
The professor in charge of professionalizing courses are also in charge of the relevant professional practice. For each professional practice period a mid-term evaluation might be carried out, and it will be taken into account by the professor for the examination mark. The physiopathological and clinical competences as well as the competences in dentistry acquired through the courses provided by the educational programme, together with clinical practical activities determine and define the professional profile of a Dentist operating in the European Union.
