Students of this course should: - acquire the competences needed to understand the structural and anatomic organisation of the NS and of the relevant biological, neuro-chemical and physiological phenomena; - know the fundamental traits of psychological development and family dynamics - understand the etiopathogenesis, physiopathology, diagnostics and symptoms of the principal mental disorders of childhood, adolescence and adult age; - know the main psychodiagnostics tools and the most common rating scales; - know the fundamental traits of both pharmacological and psychotherapeutic psychiatric care; - understated the basic principles, the underlying theories, the models, techniques and intervention strategies of psychiatric rehabilitation; - acquire the capability of designing tailor made rehabilitation interventions and their evaluation procedures; - understand the basic principles of mental hygiene and of the prevention of psychic disease in various life contexts. - Acquire appropriate knowledge of the regulations related to psychiatry and to the organisation of mental healthcare services. The course provides 180 credits in three years; at least 60 credits correspond to core, class specific and related activities aiming at the acquisition of specific professional skills. Core activities are related to preparatory and introductory teachings, needed to achieve basic competences with respect to biological, biochemical and physiological phenomena and to the principal functioning mechanisms of origins and systems. Class specific activities are related to the prevention, diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation in the field of psychiatric pathologies, with respect, in particular, to the study of the psychological, pharmacological and forensic traits. The course also provides competences with respect to healthcare management, Related activities deeply investigate subjects related to psychiatric rehabilitation, in accordance with a multidisciplinary approach to mental disease.
Graduates might find professional opportunities at the facilities of the NHS and at private structures, family houses, educational and training organizations, as employees or freelance. Specifically, psychiatric rehabilitation technicians ate healthcare workers performing, as part of a treatment plan developed by a multidisciplinary team, rehabilitative and educational interventions on individuals with psychic disabilities. Psychiatric rehabilitation technicians: a) cooperate in the a the evaluation of the subject's psychic disability and potential, analyze the needs and demands of evolution and points out the resources of the family and socio-environmental context; b) Cooperate in the identification of educational and therapeutic goals and psychiatric rehabilitation as well as in the formulation of the specific intervention program aimed at the recovery and development of the subject being treated, c) implement interventions for the habilitation/rehabilitation of individuals to take care of themselves and to interpersonal relationships of varying complexity as well as , where possible, to work d) work in the local prevention system, in order to promote the development of network relations, to facilitate the acceptance and management of risk situations and explicit pathologies; e) operate on the subjects' families and social context, in order to facilitate their reintegration into the community; f) cooperate in the evaluation of the outcomes of the habilitation/rehabilitation programs in individuals, in relation to the objectives. Graduates in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Technique can work in various social care facilities, in the public and private sector, psychosocial centers, rehabilitation treatment center, therapeutic communities, lodging houses, nursing homes , drug addiction services, juvenile detention centers, institutes for handicapped, socio-educational centers , etc., dealing with the psychological disease of adults, children , adolescents and the elderly.
To be admitted to the final examination, students should have acquired 174 credits; the final examination is awarded with 6 credits. The final examination consists of the preparation and discussion of a theoretical practical paper and of a practical test aiming at demonstrating professional expertise. Papers might also be written in a foreign language, agreed with the Board. The final examination is qualifying for the professional practice. The dates of the two examination sessions shall be communicated to the Ministries of University and Healthcare, which can send their representatives, to the individual sessions. The final mark is awarded out of 110, therefore pass mark is 66/110. If the overall score of 110/110 is reached, the President of the examining Board proposes the attribution of praise, which may be assigned only unanimously. The final mark is attributed on the basis of: - the average of marks obtained in individual examinations and annual professional practice periods; - the mark awarded to the written paper; - the mark awarded to the practical examination; - the evaluation of the degree dissertation. Graduates ion "Psychiatric rehabilitation technique" may access, without additional educational duties, to the 2nd cycle Degree Course in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Science.
