The degree course, taking account of the training in the biological disciplines gained during the 1st cycle degree in Biology or related degrees, aim, as specific learning outcomes, at the acquisition of advanced skills in basic human biology and its applications in the health biology field, both for the diagnosis and biology of nutrition.
The course aims in particular at training graduates:
- With advanced knowledge of the human cellular, biochemical and physiological processes, of the normal functioning of the human body and of the principal causes of homeostatic alterations at molecular, cellular and organ level.
- With general command of molecular, genetic and cell biology techniques.
- Capable of understanding which alteration have a genetic basis;
- Knowing the meaning of human alimentation and nutrition and of principal social and environmental which are more important for the defence of health and wellbeing;
- Knowing the factors which may affect human health and environment quality.
- Possessing knowledge of drugs and other preventive an therapeutic means, of biological or synthetic products which may affect human health and wellbeing.
The abovementioned competences and skills are obtained through the mandatory attendance to lectures, through practice and autonomous study, namely in the class specific sectors: BIO/O6, BIO/09, BIO/10, BIO/11, BIO/14, BIO/18, MED/42.
Then, through the preparation of the experimental dissertation, students will acquire the understanding and critical approach to scientific texts, and they will apply the scientific method to gather, interpret and elaborate, even under a statistical perspective, important scientific data deriving from the observation and laboratory measurements.
These are the reasons why the training of graduates in Health Biology is the basis for their entrance in the labour market, not only as biologists analysis, but also as scientific communicators, nutritionists or researchers in the bio-medical field.
