The cognitive, affective and behavioural traits involved in social processes and in the internal dynamics of social organisations are the focus of the 2nd cycle Degree Course in "Social, Occupational and Organisation Psychology". The educational programme covers the typical disciplinary ambits of General Psychology, Social Occupational and Organisations Psychology and of Dynamic and Clinical Psychology. Related and integrative educational activities are related to the following areas: Labour Law, Psychometrics, Social Psychology, Occupational and Organisations Psychology, Dynamic Psychology, Business Economics and Management. Business Organisation, Social Statistics, General Sociology, Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes and Legal Sociology, Sociology of Deviance and Social Change. These subjects will be taught with a laboratory approach, providing students with the most up-to-date tools for interventions in social and organisation contexts. The course aims at providing graduates with the typical cognitive, methodological and operational tools of social, organisation and human resources psychologists. The course will in particular provide psychological knowledge and skills with respect to the cognitive, affective and behavioural traits involved in social processes and in the internal dynamics of social organisations. Graduates will be capable of carrying out, with full professional autonomy, psychosocial actions, aiming at the planning at management of the following activities: - Analysis of needs, diagnosis and definition of objectives; - Cultural mediation; - Human resources evaluation, individuals and groups assessment; - Legal and community psychology; - Career counselling and vocational guidance; - Training and career development; - Work-related disease (burnout, mobbing, job strain etc.); - Evaluation of organisational processes from a quantitative and qualitative point of view; - Evaluation of processes related to consumption and economic behaviours.
Profile: Social Psychologist Functions: - design, management and evaluation of psychosocial interventions (eg prevention, study, etc) - assessment and measurement of attitudes and/or processes underlying human behaviour (eg consumption behaviour) - study and analysis of theories and models for understanding psychosocial phenomena (eg research activities) Skills: - Direct knowledge of the main psychosocial investigation methodologies (construction of questionnaires and interviews, management of focus groups, etc.); - skills in conflict management and in the shared construction of social attitudes and representations; - use of psychometric tools Professional opportunities: - expert and/or consultant for government and third sector agencies facing with psychosocial issues - expert and/or consultant for labour organizations for the study of attitudes and/or processes based on consumption behaviour - research activity for institutions and universities - Practice as Psychotherapist (after obtaining the post-graduate specialization required by MIUR) Profile: Occupational and Organizations Psychologist Functions: - study and evaluation of the relationship between individuals, tools and work environments; - study and assessment of aspects related to well-being, stress in the workplace, and prevention and treatment of psychological distress in organizations; - evaluation and study of the central aspects in the connection between individual and work (psycho-attitudinal tests, motivational investigation tools, behavioural detection grids, situational tests, etc.) - management of personnel selection procedures; - guidance and career counselling activities - analysis of training needs, planning of training interventions, implementation of psychosocial training interventions, monitoring and evaluation of training interventions and of their outcomes. Skills: - diagnosis and intervention on the organizational climate (through qualitative and quantitative tools); - knowledge of the tools improving well-being in the workplace (eg tools aimed at for improving internal communication or commitment to the organization) - knowledge of the tools for the prevention and treatment of psychological distress in organizations; - Knowledge of the tools for the evaluation of psychological aspects useful for the guidance, selection and development of competences in organizations (psycho-aptitude tests, motivational investigation tools, behaviour detection grids, situational tests, skills balance, etc.) - ability to identify training needs and to implement training actions related to the development of transversal skills in organizations. Professional opportunities: - Human resources manager (as a consultant for small and medium-sized enterprises and employee for medium-large enterprises and public organizations) - Private practice or collaboration with consultancy companies for educational and vocational guidance, human resources recruitment, selection, training and development, implementation of organizational interventions, outplacement, etc. - Private practice as Psychotherapist (after obtaining the post-graduate specialization required by MIUR).
The final examination aims at assessing the maturity and the critical skills of students with respect to the learning and knowledge acquired. Consistent with the educational objectives and with the expected learning outcomes of the Degree Course, the final exam consists of the preparation of an original experimental, theoretical or design paper, or of an essay on a mono/multidisciplinary theme elaborated by the student under the guidance of a supervisor, written according to the instructions provided in the educational regulations of the Course. The paper may be written in a language of the European Union other than Italian, previously agreed with the rapporteur. In this case the same work must be accompanied by an extended summary in Italian. The final paper, or part of it, can also be prepared in public and private Italian and foreign institutions and companies accredited by the University of Palermo. To obtain the degree the student must have acquired 120 credits, including those related to the final exam.
