9 credits will be related to elective educational activities.
Based on previous research experience, in synergy with other Faculties or national and international research agencies, and coherently with the outcomes of some experimental initiatives (PhDs in "Design" and "Cultural Studies" and Master courses) promoted by the Faculty of Education Science and its Departments (Department of Arts and Communication, department of Analysis of expression: languages, signs, texts), two curricula have been envisaged: "Text cultures" and "Visual culture".
Students may chose one of them after the first year (60 credits), aiming at consolidating the theoretical knowledge stemming from their previous studies (Communication, Languages, Literatures, Visual and performing arts)
The second year aims at the specialisation in the fields of "Text cultures" and "Visual culture", which are two professional and research fields widely required at national and international level.
The 2nd cycle Degre Course in "Communication theories" aims at training professionals who, together with sound cultural grounding in areas such as the communication of text sciences and visual culture and advanced competence in the humanistic field, possess the typical knowledge and capabilities of communication specialists and are able to ideate and coordinate high level projects in the field of critical text editing and contemporary visual arts.
The specific objectives of the course will vary depending on the chosen curriculum, being respectively:
For the "Text cultures" curriculum: the achievement of a mature and aware understanding of literary studies in their articulations (literary-critical, linguistic and philological) and of their relation with the study of modern comparative studies, of the theory of literature, of the history of culture, of historical-philosophical subjects and of applied computer science;
For the "Visual culture" curriculum: the achievement of a mature and aware understanding of the sciences of image, seen as an interplay among image analysis, social and individual view analysis and the media supporting these images.
In both curricula, the attitude to produce multimedia projects for the analysis and communication of text cultures and visual culture will be developed through specific laboratory practice.
