Course info
This degree course specifically aims at the technical-professional training of qualified physiotherapists through specific theoretical and practical learning in the core physiotherapy disciplines, such as:_ - Biomolecular science; - Morphological science; - Physics; - Psycho-pedagogic science; - Rehabilitation methodology; - General pathology and pharmacology - Principles and methods of neuro-rehabilitation; - Internal and geriatric medicine; - Locomotor system rehabilitation; - Management; - Physiotherapeutic rehabilitation in specialist medicine; - Physiotherapeutic rehabilitation in paediatrics; - Diagnostics and prevention in healthcare services; - General surgery, first aid and emergency. The course specifically aims at providing advanced knowledge in research methodology, through statistics, computer science, applied research. Students also take a course of Medical English aiming at the comprehension of scientific literature, with the possibility of taking PET and or FCE examinations. The theoretical-practical training in physiotherapeutic science is carried out through frontal teaching, practice, educational laboratories and professional training in specific sector, such as the rehabilitation of muscle-skeletal, neuro-motorial, cardio-respiratory and digestive system, for all ages. The relational skills needed to interact with patients, caregivers and the professional system is developed through the teaching of human and psycho-pedagogical sciences. Core activities are mainly related to the knowledge of human anatomy. Physiology of motorial system and of other subjects related to the movement, in physio-pathological ambit too. Subjects related to first aid and emergency have been included too. Class specific activities are related to the physiotherapy ambit as well as to the areas medical and surgical pathology related to physiotherapy (neurology, orthopaedics, cardio-circulatory diseases, etc..). The course also offer teachings in the fields of management and public health (prevention, laws about hazards in healthcare), as well as of general and image disgnostics. Optional teachings are provided on the basis of students' requests and of professors' availability. The teachings listed as "other educational activities" aim at helping students develop an understanding of the basic concepts in the biomedical fields as well as computer skills. The course also enables students to use the most common software dedicated to the literature search, and to understand and interpret the scientific literature for their professional development. The activities related to the specific professional workshops (SSD MED/48 aim at providing skills for the functional physiotherapy assessment of patients, with particular reference to the autonomous use of scales , specific tests and other appropriate instruments for the compilation of physiotherapy clinical records. The course also provides further physiotherapeutic training aimed at solving specific problems affecting the muscle skeletal systems and soft tissue and the practical application of all means of physical therapy through electromedical equipment; students will then be able to recognize any adverse effects on the person/damage caused by improper use or improper application of these latter.
Physiotherapists find jobs opportunities within the National and Regional healthcare system in private facilities, accredited and affiliated with the NHS , clinics , rehabilitation centres, nursing homes , spas and wellness centres , clinics and/or polyclinics . The legislation allows the carrying out of professional activity, in individual or group associations cabinets, in various types of sport associations and clubs, service cooperatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), public or private prevention services. With respect to the Regional Healthcare system, the annual turnover is estimated at 5 % - 8 % : it is however expected an increase in need for such a figure also in relation to priority health problems highlighted by the WHO, such as cardio vascular accidents, road and at work injuiries, respiratory diseases related to environmental pollution and lifestyle , overweight etc., for which the figure of the physiotherapist is central to the process of functional recovery and improvement of quality of life. In a recent survey of Unioncamere (www.unioncamere.it 30/07/09 ) this profession is placed in 5th place among the top 10 most requested from the labour market, and still physiotherapists are difficult to find, in the list of operators to " high degree of specialization . "
The final examination, qualifying for the professional practice (Legislative Decree 502/1992 , Art. 6 , paragraph 3 ), consists of: a) a practical test during which students must demonstrate they have acquired the knowledge theoretical, practical and operating skills which are typical of the specific professional profile; b) preparation of degree dissertation (See DM February 19, 2009 , article 7. Final examinations are organized in two sessions in specific periods, defined at the national level , by decree of the Minister of the University in consultation with the Minister of Health. The examining Board consists of not less than 7 and no more than 11 members, appointed by the Rector on the recommendation of the degree course, and includes at least two members appointed by the professional Board of vocational, if any , or from professional associations identified by special decree of the Minister of Health on the basis of national representativeness. The dates of the sessions shall be communicated to the Ministries University, which can send their representatives, to the individual sessions . Should the above components not be appointed, the Rector exerts its power in replacing them. The final mark is awarded out of 110. If the overall score of 110/ 110 is reached, the President of the examining Board proposes the attribution of praise, which may be assigned only unanimously.
